CASPA 2018-2019 Application Cycle Launch

The 2018-2018 CASPA application cycle will open on Thursday, April 26, 2018. Applicants can create their application as of 12:00am ET on that date. Please read below for important cycle dates and information.

Important CASPA Milestone Dates

·         April 26, 2018: The 2018-2018 CASPA application launches at 12:00am ET.

·         July 25, 2018: July PA virtual fair. Watch your email for registration information.

CASPA Fees & Fee Waivers

The CASPA application fees for the 2018-2019 cycle are as follows:

1.       First application designation: $179

2.      Each additional application designation: $52

The fee waiver bank will be increased to a total amount of $138,800, which amounts to approximately 775 fee waivers that will be awarded to eligible applicants.

Customer Support

Applicants and advisors should use the CASPA Applicant Help Center before staring an application. With additional questions, you may contact the customer service team directly at caspainfo@caspaonline.org or 617.612.2080 during regular business hours, Monday-Friday.

For assistance with the Universal Advisor Portal, please visit the UAP Help Center or contact the support team at webadmitsupport@liaisonedu.com or 857.304.2020 from 9:00am-8:00pm ET, Monday-Friday.

Program Deadlines
There are nine deadlines programs can select from in the application cycle. See a complete list of deadline dates and requirements (submit, complete, or verified)
here. Note, information will be updated when the cycle goes live on April 26.

PAEA Program Directory

The PAEA Program Directory is currently under construction with updates for the 2019 entering class pending. It should be complete by June due to a recent merging of internal PAEA program surveys. We apologize for the delay of this resource, but please encourage your applicants to check out individual program websites for detailed requirements and information.

CASPA Test Account

Want to see what your applicants see? Create your own application test account. Visit the applicant portal at https://caspa.liaisoncas.com/applicant-ux/#/login and select ‘Create an Account.’ On a following screen you will be asked your plans for enrollment. Please indicate ‘Don’t plan to begin a program’ which will let us know that your application is a test user account. You may also want to consider using ‘test’ in your username (i.e. testdanielle). You will continue to use this account in future cycles.

2018-2019 CASPA Application Enhancements

·         Letters by Liaison: Individuals uploading letters to CASPA will see an updated and streamlined evaluator portal. The redesign includes an updated user dashboard to create a more intuitive experience for evaluators. It’s now easier to create accounts, review requests, and upload documents. Advisors requiring assistance should contact the customer service team at caspainfo@caspaonline.org or 617.612.2080.

All other application updates are minor changes that will not directly impact applicants.

Applicant Tips

·         WAIT! Don’t send documents to CASPA yet. Wait until launch day and when you’ve created an account before you send transcripts or letters of reference. Sending them in before April 26 will cause them to be shredded. Letters of reference must be submitted by the letter author, so don’t send those to CASPA either – you won’t get them back and they won’t be uploaded to your application under any circumstance.

·         Save yourself the pain of an email response or phone call to customer service. Read the applicant help center before you start or re-start your application. 95% of the questions we receive can be answered here.

·         You don’t have to start over. If you applied in the 2015-2016 application cycle or later then you can choose to carry over your application (or you can start fresh, it’s up to you). After the cycle launches, use your previous log in credentials and follow the prompts on screen.

·         Skip launch day. Don’t take off work or skip class to start your CASPA application. Let launch day pass. It’s busy and the server can get overcrowded, causing delays or even the inability to access the application for some users. Save your day off for some real fun!

·         Increase your chances of success by doing research, research, and more research. Then submitting. Applying early is a great idea, but the completeness and accuracy of the application is more important. Encourage applicants to take their time, research the individual PA program requirements (both prerequisite and application submission), and read all application instructions to ensure the accuracy of their application before submitting.

·         Fee waivers are available as soon as the application cycle launches. Once an applicant is approved for a fee waiver, they must submit their application within 14 calendar days. An application cannot be submitted before fee waiver approval and there will be no extensions for fee waiver consideration if the 14-day window for submission is missed. The fee waiver pool is typically exhausted by June or early July every cycle, so plan ahead.

·         Professional transcript entry (PTE) isn’t for everyone, but, if you don’t want to enter your coursework yourself and have the funds, it may be an option for you. Make sure you’re clear on how it works because once you pay for it, no refunds are issued, and sometimes PTE can take longer (think missed deadlines) than inputting the information yourself.

·         You are responsible for your application status and progress, for inputting complete and accurate information, and getting your application to the ‘complete’ status, which then puts your application in line for verification.

4.  CBU will host its annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on Saturday, April 21, 2018.

5.  The 2018 Memphis Medical District Healthcare Interprofessional Expo, intended to highlight interprofessional collaboration and teamwork at Memphis Medical District, will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018.

Text Box:

Looking for a significant clinical research experience

Want to “jump start” your career in ways
those going directly from college to health professional school can’t possibly do?
Consider becoming a
Chief Research Associate in the Emergency Department
of a NARAP Affiliate hospital
The Research Associates (RA) Programs in the emergency departments of Affiliate hospitals of the National Alliance of Research Associates Programs (NARAP) are looking for college graduates and graduating seniors doing a year or more before matriculating to health professional school to serve as Chief RAs, the leadership cadre for these programs.

Chief RAs are volunteers serving about twenty (20) hours per week on average in their hospital’s RA Program.
•	undergraduate degree and pre-requisite courses completed
•	applying to medical school, or other health professional school
•	complete an on-line training course through St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT

•	depending on their level of involvement, may be the principal or associate investigators on study(ies)
Chief RAs help their hospital’s RA Programs to conduct their Department of Emergency Medicine research
and to enroll participants in NARAP's national, multi-center studies
•	This year's study part of a 5-year longitudinal study on the emergency department as a site to facilitate primary healthcare screenings. This research has the potential to enroll more participants than any other prospective, interventional study in history.

Think these might provide some interesting things to talk about at health profession school interviews?

For details and a list of the current NARAP Affiliate RA Programs, please head to the web site
www.theNARAP.org

Regardless if you live or go to school in proximity to a RA Program,
or you are thinking about moving to a new locale for your post-bac year,
consider the opportunities offered from service as a Chief RA.

Predental students filled the 2018 ADEA GoDental® Recruitment Event in March as they contemplated their future in dentistry and as dental professionals. Nearly 600 attendees convened in Orlando to hear from admissions officers, financial aid advisors and dental educators about the process of applying to dental school. This popular event, in its ninth year, is geared toward high school, community college and four-year college students, as well as others interested in dentistry. It allows attendees to network with others who are considering careers in dentistry and to learn more about applying to dental school from admissions officers.

(My guess is that it also leads to hypertrophy of the gluteus maximus.) BTW, viewing Medscape.com articles requires registration, but registration is free.

Incidentally, here is Sir Mix-A-Lot’s take on people with hypertrophy of the gluteus maximus:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JphDdGV2TU

(BTW, the dancer featured in the opening scene is a middle-aged English teacher at East High School.  A couple of alumni told me this.)

And here is Joe Nichols’ cover of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s take:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwti7-cEHh8
