7.  The Student National Medical Association (SNMA) Region X Conference will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Meharry Medical College (Nashville, TN).

I would like to personally invite you to the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) Region X Conference happening on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018 at Meharry Medical College. SNMA is the nation's largest and oldest organization that supports current and future medical students of color. This year's conference will feature admission workshop, leadership development, research symposium, and most excitingly, a session entitled "Designing Your Pre-Medical Journey Through MAPS." This session will address how resources and networking available through the MAPS programming can benefit all pre-medical students at your university.

Currently, Kentucky State Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS) chapter is not fully active. The MAPS section of SNMA is dedicated to increasing the number of physicians of color entering the workforce and to eliminating health care disparities through community engagement. To ensure that your university has an active chapter, two members of your school's chapter must be associate members of the SNMA, a Chapter Update Form must be filled out annually, and an SNMA regional certification must be obtained. For more information, please email region10maps@snma.org and review the MAPS website here.

Below, I have inserted a blurb and flyer that can be sent to your pre-medical student listserv:

Are you interested in learning more medical school admissions process or getting hands-on clinical skills experience? Have you recently completed research in basic, clinical or social science? Would you like an opportunity to present your work at a research symposium? Do you want the experience to update your CV and be more competitive for medical school or other allied health programs?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, then register for the Student National Medical Associations (SNMA) Region 10 Medical Education Conference (RMEC). This year's RMEC will be held November 3rd at Meharry Medical College. Register for the conference here: http://www.snma.org/index.php?pID=111. Early bird registration ends October 10th, and regular registration ends October 25th.

Sincerely,

Eriny Hanna

Region X SNMA-MAPS Liaison

Additionally, we wanted to make you aware of some changes to our application requirements that are now in effect. We have eliminated Physics with lab as a prerequisite, and have also reduced our total required prerequisite hours from 90 to 66. To view all prerequisites needed, please click here: http://pharmacy.mercer.edu/admissions/pharmd/prerequisites/. Additionally, for your advisees who are considering multiple options for a career in healthcare, we have changed our entrance exam requirements. We appreciate your advising efforts on behalf of your students!
