Mentored Research I/ Independent
Research I
Summer Session
Dr. Malinda E.C. Fitzgerald
The
purpose of this course is to provide a forum to have group discussions of your
senior research project. We will
meet every other week for the duration of the summer. If for any reason you can not make the meetings I expect you
to get in touch with me. I am very
reachable My e-mail is malinda@cbu.edu or mfitzge2@utmem.edu My phone numbers
are 321-3262 (at CBU) or 448-5724 (at UT).
All
of you have been assigned a mentor.
You have written a proposal relative to what your senior research
project will be.
By the end
of the summer you should have:
1. completed all of your data collection
(or most of it).
2. developed an understanding of the
background research behind your project (read journal articles, discussed the
project with you mentor)
3. begun to analyze your data
This
course is a pass-fail. You will be
evaluated on your ability to discuss your data among your peers and your
attendance in class. (Independent
research will get a grade).
You are
expected to be spending an average of 20 hours per week on this research
project. No one is punching a time
clock. It will really depend on
you to fulfill your research duties.
Keep in touch with your mentor.
Treat this like a job. If
you have to miss work, want to go out of town, or whatever the case maybe. Contact people and let them know what
is happening.
There will be several assignments that can be turned in via e-mail. This is the best way to reach me.
