Natural Science 411 Departmental Syllabus
Senior Thesis II

Catalog Data The research proposed in NSCI 410 is carried out. A formal written report and an oral presentation are required. Required of Natural Science majors.
Prerequisite: Natural Science 410. One semester; one credit.
Textbooks No specific textbook is required. The student is expected to use scientific journals.
Prerequisites The student should have completed introductory courses in biology, chemistry, and physics, as well as some upper level courses in his or her primary science area. Successful completion of Senior Research I is also necessary.
Goals The course is intended to give the student experience in searching the scientific literature, experimental design, experimental methods, evaluation of experimental results, scientific writing, and technical presentation.

Syllabus
The following sequence is to be followed. Deadlines for the four tasks will be set by the instructor.
  1. Complete research.
  2. Turn in first copy of written research report.
  3. Turn in final copy of written research report.
  4. Present research report orally.
Final Exam There is no final exam in this course.
Performance Evaluation Student performance is rated by a final letter grade that is determined by:
  • Difficulty of research topic
  • Thoroughness of research
  • Timliness of research tasks
  • Written report
  • Oral presentation
Resources The course instructor is available outside of the classroom a minimum of 10 hours per week for individual help.
Attendance You must attend the weekly meetings regularly. Failure to do so will result in deduction of grade points.
