Blue Line: Real Image
Magenta Line: Virtual Image

Note that if the object is outside the focal point, the lens forms an inverted, real image. If the object is far away, the lens acts as a simple camera. If the object is close to the focal point, the lens acts as a simple projector.
Note that if the object is inside the focal point, the lens forms a magnified, upright, virtual image. The lens acts as a simple magnifying glass.
