Larry Anderson (Chem & Bio)	Oct. '10:  Larry presented a poster the the American Heart Association High Blood Pressure Conference in Washington, DC, on October 14, 2010.  The title of the poster is : "Inhibition of Cytochrome P450 1B1 Activity with 2,3',4,5,'-Tetramethoxystilbene Prevents Renal Dysfunction Associated with Angiotensin II-Induced Hypertension in Rats."  Larry is a junior conducting his research at UT Department of Pharmacology.
Samantha Bownes (Biol)	June '12: Accepted to the Scholars Program at the Church Health Center for a year-long paid internship as a clinical assistant.  March '12:  Selected as the recipient of the 2012 Vanderhaar Student Peace Award, in recognition of her work with CBU Visible Campus and Arudo Yat benefitting schools and children in Uganda. With Beta Beta Beta, she has helped organized the annual Bowlathon for Uganda, a benefit for the Ugandan non-profit organization Hope North. She is also helping to form a new program to encourage first- and second-year students involved in community service and humanitarian work.

Kelly Jeu (BiomedSci)	Sept '12:  "I was offered a job position as a clinic assistant/scholar at the Church Health Center back in May of 2012. I'm currently in my dental clinic front desk rotation. In the spring I will rotate to the medical clinic gaining more hands-on training with patients. I'm loving my job, especially since I'm working with a population of people that I would want to serve when I become a doctor. It's been a learning experience and all my coworkers are super nice."

Mallory Poff	Mallory finished Baptist Nursing School in 2011 and passed her boards. She is working in ICU at LeBonheur. She is engaged to Scott Loughridge and they will be married in 2012.

Indre Augustinaite	Sept. '11: Married Gene Gerlach on September 10th. Indre is a nurse in the ICU at BMH. Dec. '09:  Graduated from Union Nursing School and is working nights at Baptist Desoto in the ICU. She is engaged to Gene Gerlach.  Dec. Chantel Engleberg	June '10:  Received the first Hamilton Eye Institute Fellowship from the UT Dept of Ophthalmology in 2006. She has been working at the Hamilton Eye Institute since graduation and has been accepted into the Casey Eye Institute of the Oregon Health and Science University.
Brian Kim	Jan '08:  Accepted to the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center (Memphis) School of Dentistry. Sept. '07: Attending Dental School at U.T.  May 2007:  Brian received the 2007 Biology Faculty Award (presented at Graduation, May 2007).  April 2007:  Brian received the Award for best poster in MOLECULAR BIOLOGY at the 2007 CBU Student Research Poster Session.  (His poster was "The Effect of Carbon Nanofibers on NIH 3T3 Fibroblast Proliferation" by Brian Kim, Elizabeth Fitzpatrick, and Eldon Geisert. )

Kyle Markway (NSci)	April '07: Accepted to the DPT (Doctorate in Physical Therapy) program at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis.
Sheharyar Minhas	Jan '08:  A photo from the Whitecoat ceremony.  Sheharyar writes, " As far as program is concerned.... you get to study a year in UK before doing your rotations anywhere you want in States or sccredited hospital around the world (for free electives). Since it's an acclerated program the classes are from 9:00am-5:00pm and then of course you have late night studying. Besides US medical ethics, biochemistry, and gross anatomy n embryology (and lab), we also have histology n cell biology (n lab) for the first semester. I am glad I had histology at CBU. It helped me so much that I would be struggling if I didn't had it before."  Jan. '08:  Accepted to the St. George's University School of Medicine Global Scholars Program in Newcastle, United Kingdom.  March '07:  Received a statewide second-place award in the Cell and Molecular Oral Presentation section at the Tennessee Academy of Science (TAS) meeting at Austin Peay University.  He was awarded a one-year membership to TAS and his research was published in the online TAS Journal.  Nov. '06:  Awarded a second place prize for his paper,  "Incorporation of HA into H5N1 vaccine virus is independent of M1 gene origin" in the cell and molecular biology section of the state-wide Tennessee Academy of Science at Austin Peay State University (photo1photo2photo3).
Patton Minkin (Chem)	April '07: Accepted to the DDS program at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry.
Sana Mujahid	Mar. '08:  Co-authored a publication accepted in J. Biol. Chem. (from her CBU senior biology research at U.T.).  Mar. '07:  Sana has accepted to the Integrated Studies Ph.D. Program (ISP) in the Sackler School of Gradute Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University in Boston.  Nov. '06:  Sana presented a paper on "Characterization of the lysophophatidic acid 3 receptor via computationally-guided site-specific mutagenesis" in the cell and molecular biology section of the Tennessee Academy of Science at Austin Peay State University (photo1photo2photo3).  Summer '06:  Received a summer fellowship from the Summer Research Scholars Program at the University of Tennessee, where she conducted research with Dr. Gabor Tigyi in the Department of Physiology.
Alan Newton, Pharm.D.	Mar. '07:  Accepted to the School of Pharmacy at University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.  Awarded a UT Neuroscience Institute 2006-07 Merit Fellowship for Undergraduate Neuroscience Research.
Jennie Nguyen Tran	June '10:  Jennie and David Tran (not the one who graduated from CBU) married on June 26th in SanDiego CA. Jennie is in her last year of school at Life university. April '07:  Accepted to Life chiropractic school in Marietta, GA.

Jennifer Bernard	March '07:  Jenny is one of the featured alums in the March issue of the CBU SOS Newsletter.  Jenny reports, "I'm going to Pretoria, South Africa this summer to work on a coronavirus project in cheetahs.  It's all labwork, but we'll get to travel while we're there.  It's through UT and we'll be there for about 6 weeks and then travel a couple weeks."  Fall '06:  Attending UT School of Veterinary Medicine, Knoxville.  Summer '06:  summer position looking at black bear home ranges. June '06:  Lady Buccaneer shortstop was named first team Academic All-District and second team Academic All-American ESPN Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To qualify for the honor, a player must have a cumulative 3.20 grade point average and be a starter in their particular sport. Bernard's name will now appear on the national ballot for All-American possibilities.  Apr. '06:  Accepted to University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, Knoxville.  Feb. Christina Brown Tran	Sept. '11: Christina and David Tran, Chem 2007, were married on July 23. Felix Vazquez-Chona, Ph.D.	1 Dec '05 Felix is defended his dissertation for the Ph.D. in Anatomy and Neurobiology at U.T., "Genetic networks modulating retinal injury." His dissertation research grew out of his CBU biology senior research.   Oct. '04: Felix Vazquez-Chona and Sara Elizabeth Robertson married on December 8, 2004 in Paris TN.  Felix graduated from CBU in 1998, traveled the Appalachian Trail, taught at Catholic High School, and then entered graduate school at UT.  He is currently working with Dr. Eldon Geisert, his senior thesis mentor, on his PhD.  Nov. '03:  "I am currently the Director of Operations for Classic Carriage Tours, Inc. in Charleston SC.  We conduct horse-drawn tours of historic Charleston, and maintain and provide period vehicles and equipment for motion pictures and documentaries.  We have a total of 15 horses - 6 stabled downtown and the balance are stabled at my house and farm on Johns Island where I train them and develop their diets, etc.  It truly is rewarding working side by side with these horses, and I find it to be very grounding.  I have not published anything, but I am considering developing a study of draft horses and the relationship of their performance to temperature, humidity, and amount of weight drawn.  I'll let you know if it materializes."

Toya Hurt Kimble, Ph.D. (Class of '93)	June '10:  Dr. Toya Kimble has been granted two patents as an inventor of “Drug Depot Implantable Within a Joint (US Pat. 12174007)” and Biological Markers and Response to Treatment for Pain, Inflammation (US Pat. 12105666)” — both assigned to Warsaw Orthopedic (which is another corporate name for Medtronic, for whom Toya works).  Oct. '06:  Toya D.H.Kimble (CBU class of 93 CBU), Malinda E.C. Fitzgerald and Anton Reiner. 2006. Sustained upregulation of glial fibrillary acidic protein in Muller cells in pigeon retina following disruption of the parasympathetic control of choroidal blood flow. Experimental Eye Reseach 83(5):1017-1030.  Part of this work was part of Dr. Kimble's Ph.D. research. She was awarded her Ph.D. in 2003 from UT Memphis. She is currently a Biologic Research Associate II at Medtronic Biologics. .  Toya worked at UT in the lab where she conducted her CBU senior mentored research.  Following working as a technician in Dr. Rob William's lab at UT she entered the graduate program in Anatomy and Neurobiology.  In Jan. '03 she defended her dissertation entitled "Loss of adaptive parasympathetic regulation of choroidal blood flow is deleterious to the retina."  She received her Ph.D. in May '03.  She will continue in research at UT as a post-doctoral fellow with Dr. Anton Reiner.

Sherry Neyman, M.D. (Class of '82)	Jan '05:  Starting Jan, 2005, Dr. Neyman (SNeyman@rwgdocs.com) became the Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at North Austin Medical Center in Austin, TX.   Dr. Neyman lives in Austin with her husband, Jim Golab, and they just celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary in the rain forests of Costa Rica. She is a partner in an eight doctor OB-GYN  practice,  Renaissance Women's Group.
Keith Novak, M.D. (Class of '92)	May '04: Dr. Novak (keith.novak@med.va.gov) was featured in an article in the Commercial Appeal.  Keith reports, "I signed on at the VA Memphis in 7/00 as a Primary Care Provider in Internal Medicine. In 10/02 began acting as the Associate Chief of Staff for Ambulatory Care. I am responsible for all outpatient clinics (Primary care, medical and surgical subspecialties), emergency room, occupational health, community based outpatient clinics, compensation and pension department, home based primary care, State Veterans Nursing homes (Jackson, TN and Oxford, MS). Basically coordinate the care for the 45,000 veterans cared for at our VA.... I am also the point of contact (POC) for our facility to coordinate the transfer of recently separated combat veterans returning from Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom into the VHA system. This topic is pretty hot right now which is why the media was so interested in the shared medical appointment (the first of its kind in VA) that I ran last week."  April '04: Keith is pictured at the CBU reception for accepted students with his brother-in-law Brian who will be entering as a freshman in Fall 2004.
