| Larry Anderson (Chem & Bio) | Oct. '10: Larry presented a poster the the American Heart Association High Blood Pressure Conference in Washington, DC, on October 14, 2010. The title of the poster is : "Inhibition of Cytochrome P450 1B1 Activity with 2,3',4,5,'-Tetramethoxystilbene Prevents Renal Dysfunction Associated with Angiotensin II-Induced Hypertension in Rats." Larry is a junior conducting his research at UT Department of Pharmacology. |
| Samantha Bownes (Biol) | June '12: Accepted to the Scholars Program at the Church Health Center for a year-long paid internship as a clinical assistant. March '12: Selected as the recipient of the 2012 Vanderhaar Student Peace Award, in recognition of her work with CBU Visible Campus and Arudo Yat benefitting schools and children in Uganda. With Beta Beta Beta, she has helped organized the annual Bowlathon for Uganda, a benefit for the Ugandan non-profit organization Hope North. She is also helping to form a new program to encourage first- and second-year students involved in community service and humanitarian work. |

In the spring I will rotate to the medical clinic gaining more hands-on training with patients. I'm loving my job, especially since I'm working with a population of people that I would want to serve when I become a doctor. It's been a learning experience and all my coworkers are super nice." |

Since it's an acclerated program the classes are from 9:00am-5:00pm and then of course you have late night studying. Besides US medical ethics, biochemistry, and gross anatomy n embryology (and lab), we also have histology n cell biology (n lab) for the first semester. I am glad I had histology at CBU. Jenny reports, "I'm going to Pretoria, South Africa this summer to work on a coronavirus project in cheetahs. It's all labwork, but we'll get to travel while we're there. It's through UT and we'll be there for about 6 weeks and then travel a couple weeks." Fall '06: Attending UT School of Veterinary Medicine, Knoxville. Summer '06: summer position looking at black bear home ranges. June '06: Lady Buccaneer shortstop was named first team Academic All-District and second team Academic All-American ESPN Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To qualify for the honor, a player must have a cumulative 3.20 grade point average and be a starter in their particular sport. We conduct horse-drawn tours of historic Charleston, and maintain and provide period vehicles and equipment for motion pictures and documentaries. We have a total of 15 horses - 6 stabled downtown and the balance are stabled at my house and farm on Johns Island where I train them and develop their diets, etc. It truly is rewarding working side by side with these horses, and I find it to be very grounding. I have not published anything, but I am considering developing a study of draft horses and the relationship of their performance to temperature, humidity, and amount of weight drawn. I'll let you know if it materializes." |
