| People need to have things trumpeted into their ears several times and from all directions. The first sound pricks up the ear, the second shakes it, and with the third, it goes in. Source: Laennec, René-Théophile-Hyacinthe. Letter to his cousin Meriadec, June 8, 1821 [As cited in Duffin J, To See with a Better Eye, p. 240 (q.v.)]. | |
| "Your zeal for the pupils under your guidance would be very imperfect if you expressed it only in words. It will become perfect only if you practice yourself what you are teaching them. Your example makes a much greater impression on minds and hearts than words do. Students are led more readily to do what they see done for them than to carry out what they hear told them, particularly when the words they hear are not in harmony with the actions they see." John Baptist de La Salle: The Educator and Visionary | |
| Meaningful education doesn't
mean memorizing lists of facts, it means knowing what those facts mean,
and how to combine them to do useful things. A big part of real education
is knowing how to deal with incomplete information, and make reasonable
judgments and guesses about things you've never directly learned. If you've
just memorized facts, you'll be paralyzed by those sorts of questions,
but if you've actually learned the subject, you should be able to deduce
the correct answer.

Ginny (1995-2002) was a pampered indoor pet. She received excellent veterinary care and lots of TLC. She had chronic renal failure, but was playful and cuddly to the end. |
